Wrinkle relaxation Botulinum toxin type A

Botulinum Toxin Type A is a medicine which is used in reducing the appearance of certain types of wrinkles. Line reducing injections work by relaxing these small muscles, using an injectable type of Botulinum Toxin A used to treat fine lines and wrinkles. In general, the upper face is divided into 3 areas:

  • The forehead lines
  • Frown lines
  • Crows feet
Each area can be treated, the treatment is charged per area. You can choose to have just one or all three areas treated. The number of areas to be treated will be discussed at your consultation so don't worry if you don't know exactly what you want!

Does the treatment hurt?

The needles that are used are tiny so pain is minimal. Some people say that it can be a little uncomfortable, but people are usually pleasantly surprised at how quick and pain free the treatment is.

How quickly will you see results and how long do they last?

An improvement in the frown lines generally takes place within 3-5 days, with the maximum effect observed on day 30. The effect lasts up to 4 months after the injection.

How often will you need touch-ups?

The intervals between treatments should not be shorter than 3 months. Some lines and wrinkles may not be able to be treated with wrinkle relaxing injections, therefore, other treatments such as dermal fillers may be suggested.

How long will the results last?

Usually, it will last for 3-4 months, but repeated use often results in longer lasting results.

Will you still be able to frown, smile, or look surprised after treatment with Botulinum Toxin?

Yes. They will be able to frown, smile, or look surprised-but without the creases.

Who should not useBotuinum Toxin Tyle A?

The following patients : Pregnant or breastfeeding women cannot have this treatment. Those hypersensitive (allergic) to Botulinum neurotoxin type A or any of the other ingredients of Bocouture®. Those who suffer from a generalized disorder of muscle activity (e.g. myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome). Those who have an infection at the proposed injection site. As a qualified aesthetic practitioner I may refuse or delay treatment for medical or psychological reasons.

What are the side effects?

Like all medicines, these injections can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The following side effects have been observed: headaches, muscle activity disorders, meeling of heaviness in the upper part of the face, itching.
There are a number of other uncommon reactions and as with every injection the following reactions may occur around the injection site: pain, tenderness, itching, swelling and bruising.

Treatment for bruxism

Bruxism is the unconscious clenching of the teeth. Botox injections weaken the masticatory muscles just enough to reduce bruxism. And it still allows you to chew, talk and smile normally.
One study shows that Botox “reduces the frequency of bruxism events, decrease bruxism-induced pain levels and satisfy patients’ self-assessment”.In comparison with a custom night guard, Botulinum Toxins are equally effective on bruxism. In another study, all patients treated with Botox have declared “a good/very good improvement in symptoms.Overall, studies support the efficacy of Botox to reduce pain in the muscles of the jaw.

How long will the results last?

New Botox injections are periodically needed to treat bruxism. Duration of one treatment can last from one month to 26 weeks, with the average being four months.

What are the side effects?

No significant side effects were seen. Some small temporary side effects include: soreness and bruising at the injection site, and with large dose, diffusion to superficial muscles of the face can result in a “fixed” smile for about 6 to 8 weeks.

Platismal bands

As we age, the platysma neck muscle may become more lax or more hypertrophic (enlarged). When this happens, vertical ridges or bands may become more pronounced when the muscle is contracted. BOTOX® may be used to relax the platysma muscle and diminish the appearance of the bands. During treatment, the physician will typically ask the patient to contract the neck muscle and then place BOTOX® along the ridges of the muscle. BOTOX® is usually placed 1 – 3 centimeters apart along each band. The patient may return a couple of weeks after the first treatment if more BOTOX® is needed. This procedure tends to work best in patients with hyperactive platysma muscles creating vertical bands regardless of age. Generally Botox is advised for patients under the age of 65.

How quickly will you see results and how long do they last?

Excellent results occur after a week to 10 days. Botox injections relax the platysma muscle for three to six months.

How often will you need touch-ups?

Most often the procedure needs to be repeated every five to six months.

What are the side effects?

Botox treatment of this area is very safe and effective when appropriate dose is applied.

excessive sweating

Excessive sweating – or hyperhidrosis – is an embarrassing and uncomfortable condition that affects around 3% of the UK population. It can have a serious affect on a sufferer’s working and social life and many people simply avoid doing things they would otherwise love to do because they are too embarrassed about their sweating.
There are two main types of hyperhidrosis:

  • Focal hyperhidrosis is the more common type and involves excessive sweating of the hands, feet and underarms.
  • Generalised hyperhidrosis is much less common and affects the whole body. It is usually caused by another illness like diabetes, an underactive thyroid or an infection.

What does the treatment involve?

Very small amounts of Botulinum Toxin are injected under the arms. This blocks the action of the nerves that supply eccrine glands and stops them producing sweat.

Do the injections hurt?

The needle used is very fine and only a tiny amount of substance is used so pain is minimal. No sedation or local anaesthetic is required.

How long does the treatment take?

Approximately 30 minutes. You can then go straight back to normal activities.

How soon will I see the results?

You should notice that your sweating has reduced considerably within 3 to 7 days of treatment.

How long will the results last?

The effects of the injection should last between 6 and 12 months. As soon as you notice a return to excessive sweating you can come back to us for more treatment.

Are there any side effects?

Only tiny amounts of Botulinum Toxin are used so this treatment is not harmful in any way. You may experience some itching around the injection site just after treatment but this will not last long at all.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers, made from Hyaluronic Acid, are the most popular volume enhancing treatments used to reduce facial lines and wrinkles and to restore plumpness to the lips and cheeks, redefining the shape of your face. Dermal fillers are ever growing in popularity - they are safe, long-lasting and offer natural looking results.

Restylane, Juvaderm

Restylane, Juvederm & Belotero are dermal fillers. They are made of hylauronic acid which is a natural skin substance. They each a gel that is injected into the skin. They can be used to fill lines on your face (like the smile lines between nose and mouth) or they can ad volume to areas that have flattened with age (like your lips or cheeks)

How long do these fillers last?

Depending on your metabolism and the area of your face that is treated, Restylane, Juvederm & Belotero usually last at least 9 months. In certain areas (like under your eyes) they last much longer.

Who does the treatment?

In our office all treatments are personally performed by either Dr. Cohen or Dr. Swartz. Never by an assistant or a nurse.

Will my lips look too big?

Many people notice that, as time goes by, their lips look smaller than they did in the past. For these people a light treatment of Juvederm does the trick. It returns your lips to how they looked when you were younger. Other people feel that there lips are just too small. If that is your situation, Juvederm can be used to naturally enlarge your lips so that look more plump. Our approach is to always produce a natural result that makes you look younger and more attractive, not like you have had a treatment.

Can Restylane, Juvederm be used to treat people with every skin tones or color?

Yes. These fillers can be used in patients with very light skin, patients with very pigmented skin, and everything in between. The treatments do not cause hyperpigmentation or scarring in patients, including patients of color.

What if I do not like the results of my treatment, or there is an area that I do not like?

One of the major advantages of these fillers is that they are reversible. In the unlikely event that you are not happy with the results of your treatment, a touch-up can often be performed. If needed, the entire treatment can be reversed by injecting a safe medication, called hylauronidase, that completely dissolves the filler.

Dracula Therapy

Dracula therapy (also known as Platelet Rich Plasma, PRP therapy, S3, Self Stimulated Serum or even Vampire therapy) involves using your own blood as an injectable anti-ageing treatment – it’s one of the best treatments I know of, and I was the first to introduce it into the UK.

WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT INVOLVE?

I take a small sample of your blood (about the same amount as an average blood test). I then separate it into red blood cells, clear serum and platelets – through a process of centrifugation. I add vitamins and amino acids to create a super charged serum, which is then injected into you (using tiny painless injections) – in whichever area you require. Essentially it allows the body to heal faster and more efficiently. It stimulates DNA repair, heals scars and makes dry lacklustre skin look and feel younger.

HOW SOON WILL I SEE THE RESULTS?

It’s a one-off treatment with results noticeable within 3-4 weeks and works especially well for the forehead, cheeks, neck, décolletage, hands, knees and elbows. It’s amazing at skin revitalisation, tackling scars (including acne scars) and stretch marks. It can be mixed with dermal fillers to treat lines, administered during the same appointment as botulinum toxin for a lifting effect and really tackle any skin related problems.

Dracula therapy Suitability

Dracula therapy appeals to patients looking for a more natural approach to facial rejuvenation; it’s rejuvenation with their own cells and more specifically, autologous platelet-rich plasma. It’s natural facial improvement without using synthetic fillers or animal products.

How often will you need touch-ups?

Treatment may need re-doing every 6 months because of the on-going ageing process.

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is a technique whereby microscopic quantities of medical grade pharmaceuticals, vitamins, minerals and amino acids are administered into the upper and middle layers of the skin in order to treat a variety of ailments.
This method has gained special recognition within aesthetic medicine as it is the most effective non-surgical technique for skin rejuvenation and treatment of skin conditions on both the face and body. No one topical application of cream can deliver the biological active ingredients into the skin cells and activate skin metabolism as effectively as mesotherapy.
Why choose Mesotherapy?

  • It is progressive and very effective.
  • It is safe, with no side effects.
  • It offers an alternative to plastic surgery.
  • It requires little or no post-treatment down time (redness may last for a maximum of one day).

Does mesotherapy hurt?

With the micro-injection method, most people only feel minimal discomfort, however, if you do feel discomfort there is a topical anaesthetic that can be applied to the skin to remove this sensation. Needle-free mesotherapy warms the skin but is completely painless.

,h3>Is there any down time after the procedure?

The treatment requires no down time which enables most people to return to their normal activities straight away.

How quickly will I see results?

The speed of the results depends on the extent of the condition or area being treated. Normally it will take 1-2 days for results to visibly appear after the treatment. For areas such as eye fat bags, results can be seen after 1-2 treatments whereas for body fat it takes 2-4 treatments.

Will the results last?

The results do last, however we cannot stop the natural ageing process. Therefore we recommend regular maintenance treatments. This applies to both face and body treatments. Cellulite results can be maintained with a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Are there any side effects?

There are no side effects to this treatment.

Dermaroller treatment

Dermaroller is a medical roller with hundreds of micro-skin needles arranged around it. As the Dermaroller is passed across the skin it causes small micro punctures in the skin surface that stimulates the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally and safely, creating smoother, brighter, healthier, younger-looking skin.
If you suffer from acne scars, burn scars, hyper pigmentation or aged skin then Dermaroller could be for you. Dermaroller treatment is to regenerate the skin to hide the signs of ageing and reduce scars. After this treatment your skin will appear more radiated and refreshed. You can go back to your daily activities almost immediately. Your skin may be red for up to 24 hours.

What does the treatment involve?

The practitioner will apply an anesthetic cream to your skin for 45-60 minutes before your treatment to numb the treatment area. The treatment involves the Dermaroller being rolled over the problem area to produce thousands of micro-medical needle punctures in the skin. This controlled damage to the skin surface is not deep enough to elicit a scarring response however it will cause the body to have a milder healing response. The nearby tissue is broken down and new elastin and collagen are formed. This way scarring, lines, wrinkles and pigmentation are all gently removed, being replaced over time with new scar free skin. The practitioners can control the depth of needling to achieve the best result – they can go as deep as 1.5mm on the face, which has proven successful in removing scars, and as deep as 3mm on the body. The practitioner will assess how deep or superficial they need to go.

What areas can be treated?

Dermaroller can be used on any part of the body. The most common area to be treated is the face for acne scars or to treat fine lines and wrinkles. The Dermaroller is also used to treat lines and wrinkles on the neck, décolletage and the backs of hands.

Does the treatment hurt?

The treatment is relatively pain free and the anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand to reduce any discomfort that may be caused.

How long does the treatment take?

The dermaroller treatment takes 20-30 minutes depending on the area that is being treated. The face usually takes about 20 minutes. The neck takes approximately a further ten minutes. Dermaroller for the hand and décolletage take 10 to 15 minutes for each area.

How many treatments will I need?

We recommend a course of four treatments approximately 6-8 weeks apart to achieve the best results.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects of Dermaroller are minimal. The acne scarring, or area being treated, may look red, similar to moderate sunburn. This will settle within a few hours and the skin will look normal by the next day. In a very small percentage of people it can take 48 hours for the redness to fully settle. During this period camouflage or foundation can be used.

What aftercare is required?

After your Dermaroller treatment your practitioner will put on a barrier repair cream to encourage the repair of the skin. A sunscreen is also recommended to wear between treatments. This helps protect the skin and provide optimum conditions for the skin to repair itself.

How soon will I see the results?

It can take up to six weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen and the process will continue over the following months, providing you with a natural and long lasting enhancement. In the treatment of acne scars and other types of scarring it may be necessary for your practitioner to extend your Dermaroller procedure, carrying out up to five procedures.

How long will the results last?

The results from a dermaroller treatment are permanent. As it is a repair of the skin it does not revert after a given time period. Dermaroller for fine lines and wrinkles will improve the skin; however it will not stop skin ageing and new lines forming.

Thread Face Lift

Thread Face Lift is a procedure which rejuvenates regenerates and improves the structure of the face, in a similar way to a surgical facelift, but without the need for surgery. It uses specialised threads which are introduced into the skin with a very fine needle to lift tissue and muscle and improve skin texture.
A thread lift is a minimally invasive, safe and effective non-surgical procedure that offers that offers subtle, natural looking results for both men and women.

What results can I expect from the Beauty Lift?

The PDO threads will give the skin an immediate, natural improvement in appearance. After about 10-14 days, the process of natural body protein synthesis begins and continues over a period of two years, keeping the texture of the skin smooth and supple.

Please take into consideration the following;

Bruising can happen. The degree of bruising varies not only depending on the area being treated, but also from patient to patient. However, you do need to be aware that considerable bruising could possibly occur, and plan your social calendar or work commitments around this.
